So far we have learned about the major Hebrew vowels. But there is one other vowel sound that I want to tell you about. In addition to the Open and Closed Vowels, there is another vowel called the Sheva (ְ). This is a very short vowel sound like the a in banana. In this book I will indicate the Sheva (ְ) by @ to distinguish it from all the other vowel sounds. Thus for example, the word גְבוּל (border) is pronounced g@vool.
